Canadian Halloween Costume Retailer Takes Centre Stage At Kidcon Montreal

Oya Costumes, Canadian online retailer of Halloween Costumes Canada, announced that it will be participating at the highly anticipated Kidcon event to be held at the Uniprix Stadium, September 26th and 27th in Montreal.

Kidcon is a new convention for kids aged 3 to 12 years old, created for kids to help them explore, play and have fun. Oya Costumes will provide a dress-up station for kids to try and play with costumes. "Kids learn by playing and we often underestimate the benefit of role playing in a child's development. Dress up and role playing can spark a child imagination, help them develop social skills, learn about the adult world, develop empathy and motor skills and overcome shyness" says Faten Hodroge, President and co-founder of Oya Costumes.

Oya Costumes Expands Its Pet Costumes

“One in three households owns a dog, which means Canadian families have 5.9 million dogs as pets,” said Faten Hodroge, President and founder of Oya Costumes. “This rate is even higher for families with young children. More than half of families with kids 6-17 years of age have a dog.”

Increasingly, families want their pets to join them in dressing up for the annual holiday. Although most popular pet costumes have been classic costumes like pumpkins, devils and hot dogs, the Montreal based webstore has noticed an increase in demand for licensed and branded costumes. “We’re expecting Star Wars pet costumes to be strong this year, as well as the Avengers pet costumes,” says Ms Hodroge. Like adult and children costumes, it seems pet costumes are now also reflecting the trends in media and movies.

Online Growth in Halloween Costumes

Boasting double-digit growth in sales over the last 6 years, it is not surprising that the company has had to expand once again. "I am thrilled about this expansion", said Faten Hodroge, president of the company. "This is our third expansion in the last six years. According to the American National Retail Federation, 15 per cent of Americans expect to dress their pets in costume this year. That’s one of the reasons that the holiday has become much more significant for retailers. It ranks second only to Christmas in terms of sales, followed by back to school sales according to the Retail Council of Canada.

“People are crazy about their pets, they’re as important as kids,” says Faten Hodroge, the owner of Montreal-based costume specialist Oya Costumes.

In the three years that she has been selling dog costumes online, Hodroge says sales have more than doubled.

“Halloween isn’t just for children anymore, it’s for adults, it’s for teens, it’s for dogs, it’s for everybody,” says Hodroge.

Bestsellers this year for adults and kids are anything superhero, including Batman, the Avengers and Spider-Man, three blockbuster movies that opened in the summer.
